September 21, 2024, will mark another edition of World Clean Up Day, a global initiative to combat pollution and raise awareness about environmental protection. This day of action brings together millions of volunteers worldwide who dedicate themselves to cleaning up their communities. In this article, we will explore why participating in this event is essential for our planet and our well-being.

1. History and Objectives of World Clean Up Day

Origin of the movement

World Clean Up Day began in Estonia in 2008 with an initiative to clean the entire country in one day. This movement quickly gained momentum and transformed into a global effort, now involving more than 180 countries.

Mission and vision

The main objective of World Clean Up Day is to eliminate poorly managed waste in public spaces while raising awareness among citizens about the importance of waste management. The movement aspires to a world without waste, where everyone is aware of their impact on the environment.

Overall impact up to 2024

Since its inception, World Clean Up Day has helped collect millions of tons of waste worldwide. In 2023, more than 50 million people participated in the event, demonstrating the growing importance of environmental issues.

2. The importance of World Cleanup Day

Raising awareness about pollution

Participating in World Clean Up Day helps raise awareness among a wide audience about pollution problems. The event draws attention to the alarming amount of waste in our environments and educates participants on best practices to adopt.

International mobilization

This day embodies a global mobilization, bringing together individuals of all nationalities around a common goal: to make the planet cleaner.

Reducing the ecological footprint

By picking up litter, we help reduce our ecological footprint and preserve biodiversity, especially in sensitive areas like oceans and forests.

3. Global environmental challenges in 2024

Pollution of the oceans and land

Plastic pollution in the oceans is a major scourge. By 2024, it is estimated that millions of tons of plastic will still be floating in the oceans, killing marine life and disrupting ecosystems.

Climate change and waste management

Improper waste management contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. By participating in World Clean Up Day, we indirectly contribute to the fight against climate change.

Overconsumption and waste of resources

Our consumer society produces a phenomenal amount of waste. World Clean Up Day is a response to this waste, encouraging more sustainable consumption habits, particularly those that eliminate plastic.

4. My Better Way: A player committed to eco-responsibility

My Better Way's goal is to raise consumer awareness about the environmental consequences of overconsumption, while offering sustainable alternatives. That's why every year I'm committed to organizing a litter collection event in the Camargue region. The aim is to concretely demonstrate the impact of our lifestyle on nature and encourage the adoption of environmentally friendly behaviors. Last year, we collected 266 kg of waste. We can do even better.

This year, the cleanup will be carried out in partnership with the Salins du Midi company, which actively supports the protection of the Camargue. Therefore, access will be free for all participants on September 21, 2024, at 10:00 AM, and the cleanup will be followed by refreshments provided by the Arles Town Hall!

The Wings of The Ocean association will also be there to run the sorting and weighing of the waste.

World Clean Up Day is a unique opportunity to make a concrete contribution to the protection of our environment, and the waste collection event organized on Salins beach is a striking example.

By participating, you'll be taking direct action for a cleaner world and raising awareness among those around you about the importance of preserving nature. Whether you come alone, with family, or with friends, every action counts. Join us on September 21, 2024, at 10:00 AM to make a difference together, and together, let's be the agents of change towards a more sustainable future.
